Please join us for an Evening of Ecstatic Chants from around the World with Shanti Shivani & Friends.

Shanti Shivani will accompany herself on the tambura, the celestial sounding drone instrument of Indian classical music. She will be joined by master musicians Jesse Whitworth on bouzouki and guitar, Nisha Calkins on cello and Ankush Vimawala on percussion, i.e. tabla, dholak and doumbek to offer a rich and beautiful sound.

Sacred songs with call-and-response sections from the Sufi, Hindu and Buddhist traditions bring mind, body, and voice together in a way that is spiritually liberating, and physically, mentally and emotionally restorative. There are often short meditations between the chants that function as sound healings. These allow deep nervous system alignment as the mind bathes in the bliss of the quiet spaces.

There is a performance element to this event, but the real purpose is to experience the depth of silence and inner space, and the power of sound, mantras, and Living Word/Living Light as it flows through you. It is our experience that the universe is an embodiment of divine power. We consider musical events to be spiritual opportunities to feel more alive and more connected to love. We hope that our music and healing intention will inspire you to recognize that you are music.

“Shanti Shivani’s exquisite voice transmits a purity, clarity and depth of feeling that is rare. When she sings, it is as though the great Goddess herself is speaking directly to you, filling you with her warmth, light and divine grace.”  – Sharron Rose, dancer/choreographer/ filmmaker, author of “The Path of the Priestess”

Shanti Shivani is a singer/nada yogini/sound healer, internationally acclaimed seminar leader, performer and recording artist. She is one of the first Western pioneers bringing the sacred traditions of Nada Yoga and Dhrupad, the most ancient style of Hindustani classical music, to the West. Since 1981, Shanti has been the disciple of the premier family of the Dhrupad lineage, the Dagar family, who has been passing on the Dhrupad tradition for twenty generations. Shanti has been performing Dhrupad and sacred music from various traditions (Hindu, Buddhist, Sufi, Gregorian & Hebrew etc.) internationally since 1993. She has several albums to her credit and has been recording as a solo artist and in collaboration with many World Music artists since 1993. She currently lives in Eugene, OR. www.shantishivani.com
